This policy explains what happens to personal data when you play Mutelands, the game for Android by REGICODE LTD
(Google Play package com.regicode.mutelands).
In short
- Mutelands is a single-player game. It has no accounts, no chat and no analytics of its own, and we run no servers that receive data from the game.
- Your save, your settings and your choices stay on your phone.
- Google receives some data for the optional rewarded ads, the consent form and payments. Unity receives reports of your purchases, because its purchase system is built into the game.
- You never have to give us data to play. If you refuse ad consent, you still play everything; ads are then not personalised.
- Settings > Delete my data deletes your save, your settings and your ad consent answer from your phone. Clearing the game's storage in Android's settings, or uninstalling the game, deletes everything.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is REGICODE LTD, Strovolou 77, Strovolos Center, Flat/Office 301, 2018 Strovolos, Nicosia, Cyprus (VAT CY60208702X). Email: support@mutelands.com. We have not appointed a data protection officer: for anything about your data, write to support@mutelands.com.
2. Data that stays on your phone
The game keeps on your phone:
- your save: progress, inventory, Haven, quests;
- your settings: sound, graphics, vibration, controls;
- the products you own, so the game can show them;
- your answer to the consent form (section 4);
- a random install ID: a code the game makes on your first save, tied neither to your phone's hardware nor to you. Each save records it, with the game version and the time of the save;
- in beta versions only, a game log, performance captures and the last feedback file you made.
None of this is sent to us, unless you send it yourself with Send feedback (section 7). It stays until you delete it (section 10): Delete my data also clears the install ID, and the game makes a new one at the next save. We need this data to provide the game you play (legal basis: contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
If backup is on in your phone's settings, Android can include the game's data in your device backup in your Google account. Google keeps that backup under your account's settings; we have no access to it.
3. Rewarded ads (Google AdMob)
The game offers rewarded videos: short ads you choose to watch for a small bonus, such as Almanac XP. There are no banners and no ads that interrupt play, and no ads are offered in the tutorial or in your first session. So that a video is ready when you want one, the game loads one in the background.
Ads come from Google AdMob. Google Ireland Limited is responsible for this data for players in the EEA and Switzerland, and Google LLC elsewhere. When an ad is requested and shown, Google's Mobile Ads SDK collects:
- your advertising ID and app set ID;
- your IP address, from which an approximate location can be estimated;
- information about your device and the game, such as the device model, operating system and language;
- interactions such as app launches, taps and video views;
- performance information, such as app launch time and hang rate.
Google uses this data to deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud and abuse, and, if you allow it, to personalise ads.
Your choice. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the game asks for your consent before any ad is requested. If you agree, Google may personalise ads. If you don't, Google shows non-personalised or limited ads, which still use some data, such as your IP address, to deliver the ad and prevent fraud. You can change your answer at any time in Settings > Privacy options. Everywhere, your phone's settings let you delete or reset your advertising ID and opt out of personalised ads.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) for personalised ads and for storing or reading information on your phone; our legitimate interest in funding the game with ads and preventing ad fraud (Art. 6(1)(f)) for non-personalised and limited ads.
More: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and Google's privacy policy.
4. The consent form (Google User Messaging Platform)
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's User Messaging Platform shows the consent form and stores your answer. To know whether to show it, it contacts Google, which receives your IP address and device information. Your answer is stored on your phone in the standard format that ad partners read (the IAB TCF consent string). Legal basis: our legal obligation to ask for and record consent (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
5. Purchases (Google Play)
Purchases go through Google Play's billing system. Google collects your payment details; we never see your card or bank details. Google tells the game which products your Google account owns, so the game can deliver them and restore them after a reinstall or on a new phone. The Google Play Terms of Service and Google's privacy policy apply to the payment.
Google gives us a record of each order through Google Play Console, such as the order number, product, price, date and country. We use these records for accounting, tax, refunds and support.
Legal basis: contract, to sell and deliver what you buy (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); our legal obligations for tax and accounting records (Art. 6(1)(c)).
6. Purchase reports to Unity
The game's purchase system is Unity In-App Purchasing, made by Unity Technologies. At each step of a purchase (started, paid, failed, delivered) it sends Unity a report with the product (its id, name, price and currency); the Google purchase token and, once paid, Google's signed purchase receipt (order number, product, purchase time); the game's version and install time; your device's model, operating system version, language settings, total storage and the time it was last switched on; and, for a failed purchase, the reason. Like any connection, it also shows Unity your IP address. The report contains no advertising ID and no account or device identifier. Unity uses these reports to run and improve its purchase service. See Unity's privacy policy.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a reliable and secure purchase system, of which this reporting is part (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
7. Beta feedback (beta versions only)
Beta versions have Settings > Send feedback. If you use it, the game packs a file with what you wrote; the date and time; the game version and state (place, in-game day and time, graphics settings, frame rate); your device details (model, Android version, memory, graphics chip, processor, screen); the game log, with its warnings and errors; a performance capture, if you recorded one; and your save, unless you turn Attach save off. The save includes your purchase records (products, prices, times and Google order numbers) and the game's random install ID (section 2). Nothing is sent automatically: Android's share menu opens, you choose the app (for example your email or a messaging app) and the recipient, and we receive the file with your contact details in that app (for example your email address or phone number).
We use it only to fix problems and improve the game, and delete it within 12 months after the beta ends. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in fixing the game (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Store versions don't have this screen.
8. When you write to us
If you email us, we use your address and message to answer you, and keep them for 2 years after the conversation ends, unless the law requires longer. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or, for a purchase, the contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
9. How long data is kept
| data | kept |
|---|---|
| on your phone | until you delete it (section 10) |
| ads and consent (Google) | under Google's retention policy |
| purchase reports (Unity) | under Unity's privacy policy |
| order records (Google Play Console) | as long as Cyprus's tax and accounting law requires: at least six years |
| beta feedback | up to 12 months after the beta ends |
| emails | 2 years after the conversation ends |
10. Deleting your data
- Settings > Delete my data deletes your save, your settings (the install ID included), your answer to the consent form and, in beta versions, the game log and feedback files, and the game starts over. It doesn't reach what Google's ad components keep on your phone for themselves, such as the cookies and cache of the web view that shows the ads. Purchases are not lost: they come back from your Google account.
- To delete everything the game has on your phone, the ad components' data included, clear the game's storage in Android's settings (Settings > Apps > Mutelands > Storage; the names vary between phones) or uninstall the game. A backup in your Google account is managed in your Google settings.
- Your phone's settings let you delete or reset your advertising ID.
- We don't have the data Google and Unity collect, so we can't delete it ourselves. You can ask them directly, or write to us and we'll help.
11. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict its use and to receive it in a portable format, and you can object to uses based on our legitimate interests. You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings > Privacy options; this doesn't affect what was done before. Write to support@mutelands.com; we answer within one month. Because we keep almost no data about you, we may need your order number or the feedback you sent to find it.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. Ours is Cyprus's Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, in Nicosia. You can also turn to the authority of the EU country where you live or work, or where you think the problem happened: in Italy, for example, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
12. Children
Mutelands is made for adults (18 and over) and is not directed at children or teenagers. We don't knowingly process the data of anyone under 18. If you are a parent and think your child has used the game, you can delete the game's data by clearing its storage in Android's settings or uninstalling it, and write to us if you need help.
13. Transfers outside the EEA
Google and Unity may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. They protect these transfers with the safeguards the GDPR provides, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, as their privacy policies explain.
14. No sale, no profiling by us
We don't sell your data for money, and we make no automated decisions about you. Personalised ads, if you allow them, are handled by Google (section 3). In some US states, letting Google use your advertising ID for personalised ads can count as "sharing" or "targeted advertising"; you can opt out by turning off ad personalisation or deleting your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
15. Security
The game keeps your data on your phone, and we run no servers that store it. Google's and Unity's components send data over encrypted connections (TLS).
16. Changes
If the game starts to handle data differently, we will update this policy and its date. We will also announce significant changes in the game's release notes on Google Play.
